Dubai : UAE-IX powered by DE-CIX and SmartHub IX from e& (formerly known as e& Group) today announced its partnership to establish a seamless nationwide integrated interconnection ecosystem to enable all customers to interconnect, regardless of their telecom provider in the UAE, for remote peering.
This new collaboration includes the e&’s Carrier and Wholesale division, datamena, the datacentre and connectivity platform of the UAE Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) and du.
The Internet Exchange (IX) is a technical facility that allows the interconnection and exchange of Internet traffic between more than two independent autonomous systems.
Connectivity between the two exchanges under this agreement is underway with the first set of customers exchanging data traffic between the two platforms. Services provided include peering and enterprise interconnection services such as access to global cloud providers.
Project IX is an initiative launched by TDRA, which has been developing this cutting-edge system over the past few years to enable a more integrated connectivity landscape in the region. This milestone has combined the strengths of the two major interconnection providers, maximising the benefits for all global and regional network operators. This has created the first nationally integrated ecosystem with the best connectivity.
Customers also benefit from significantly lower latency, reduced costs and greater flexibility, as well as access to all relevant sub-sea cables landing in the region. The IX interconnection agreement creates the easiest access to seamless interconnectivity, which was built with a vision to establish UAE as an ICT hub and a major infrastructure gateway for the region.
The e& SmartHub IPX platforms, hosts renowned partners into its ecosystem to support the global telecommunication infrastructure needs of mobile carriers to enhance the internet latency for roaming customer experience, while addressing the needs of the IoT roaming business requiring lower latency.
SmartHub IX's Internet exchange service was established to exchange traffic with ISPs and Internet community members to localize the traffic and to provide lower latency for critical applications such as Gaming and cloud applications. This project has been carried out under the direction of TDRA to ensure that all customers benefit from a seamless remote peering experience for both Internet exchanges.
